School Buses are Relatively Safe, But Potentially Dangerous
There were 1,113 school-transportation-related accidents from 2008 to 2017, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. Slightly more than half (52%) happened in the country’s rural areas. Many of those accidents caused fatalities.
During that time, 1,241 people were killed in these accidents, averaging 124 deaths per year, with 21% of them happening to victims 18 and younger. Only about 10% of those killed in these accidents were in school buses, with 20% outside (bicyclists or pedestrians) with the rest (70%) occupants of other vehicles.

If You or Your Child are Injured By a School System Employee, Act Now
If a school system played a role in an accident that caused injuries, it can be held responsible for its actions. But due to Kentucky sovereign immunity laws, the system is not the same as if a private company was involved.
You need to file a notice of claim soon after the accident as well as meet the two-year statute of limitations for a vehicle accident. Without the notice, your case can be dismissed. If you’re in this situation, call our office as quickly as possible.
We need to do an investigation to have a basis to file a notice of claim, and that may take some time. When a government entity is involved in an accident, you can’t waste time getting legal help or you may be unable to get compensation for your injuries.
